Ross Murray’s Malawi Adventure

The local eateries with go up against the best Asian restaurants and takeaways from around Scotland after more than 10,000 people voted online for their favourite venues, with 70 businesses making the shortlist.

Hosted by BBC News anchor Samantha Simmonds, the gala dinner and awards ceremony will take place at The Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh on September 18.

The awards, being held for the seventh time, are organised by the Asian Catering Federation (ACF).

ACF chairman Yawar Khan said: “We are seeing some remarkable creativity by pioneering restaurateurs and chefs, adapting to challenging trading conditions and more sophisticated customer preferences, showcasing Scotland’s world-leading produce, especially its seafood, game, neeps and tatties.”

Kicking off his corporate fundraising, Itihaas restaurant in Dalkeith has agreed to part-sponsor the teenager.

Manager Matin Khan, speaking on behalf of his team, said: “We are proud to support Ross with his personal fundraising for this trip and are impressed that he is taking on board the challenge of contributing to community and environmental projects so far from home.

“This expedition shows his determination, sense of adventure and entrepreneurial spirit and we all wish him luck on his trip.”

Ross added: “I want to thank the team at Itihaas restaurant who have given me real encouragement by supporting me, not only financially, but for believing in what young people in Midlothian are capable of.”

By way of thanks, the youngster will proudly display the Itihaas name and logo on his expedition kit.

Ross is looking for another three local companies to financially back his
charity work.
