5 Must Try Lamb Curries at Itihaas!

The local eateries with go up against the best Asian restaurants and takeaways from around Scotland after more than 10,000 people voted online for their favourite venues, with 70 businesses making the shortlist.

Hosted by BBC News anchor Samantha Simmonds, the gala dinner and awards ceremony will take place at The Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh on September 18.

The awards, being held for the seventh time, are organised by the Asian Catering Federation (ACF).

ACF chairman Yawar Khan said: “We are seeing some remarkable creativity by pioneering restaurateurs and chefs, adapting to challenging trading conditions and more sophisticated customer preferences, showcasing Scotland’s world-leading produce, especially its seafood, game, neeps and tatties.”

Are you a fan of the joys of Lamb? This month we’re going to tell you all about Five Fantastic Lamb Curries that celebrate this most tender and flavoursome of meats. This range of curries should have a little something for everyone – so give them a try!

Be sure to let us know what you think!

Lamb Dupiaza

The dupiaza of the title means double onions with the lamb in this curry competing for space with lots of onion, and crunchy green pepper in a medium spiced sauce. Serve on mountains of rice to soak up and compliment the sauce.

Methi Gosht

Methi (or fenugreek) as you may know it seems to be destined to go with lamb. The two flavours work so well together you’ll wonder why you ever tried anything else. This is a great dish to do away with the cutlery and enjoy with a pile of chapattis.

Alo Gosht

Potato and lamb sounds almost traditional British food – trust us, this is anything but. It’s another dish that is great with fresh pilau rice – ideal for the green chillis to hide and surprise the diner!

Achari Gosht

Medium-hot spiced lamb made in an extremely tasty pickled masala sauce. A big favourite with our diners.

Lamb Liver Darziling

This is one to divide opinion as flavorsome iron rich liver delights some and repels others. It’s also not something you often see in an Indian Restaurant – but trust us – this is a real treat. For me – liver is perfect with rice – and this dish is the same with some spicy green chillies to add some delightful heat.
