Archive for Recommended Meals

Recommended Meal – July

For this months recommendation, the dishes are mostly traditional but we begin with a dish not commonly found in Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants.

Starter – Garlic Mushrooms

Start off your meal with a light mild-flavoured dish – chopped mushrooms, fresh garlic, coriander and herbs in a mild but tasty sauce.

Main – Sag Gosht

Turning up the heat now, our main course is a popular dish in South Asia with succulent pieces of lamb with fresh spinach leaves. This dish is also available with chicken if you prefer poultry.

Side – Bombay Alo

Potatoes infused with delicate spices makes a perfect side dish to compliment the spinach main course.

Bread – Tandoori Roti

A tandoori roti (like a chapati but cooked in a tandoor – a clay oven) is the perfect bread to eat with your main course of lamb and spinach.

Rice – Pilau Rice

With this meal we think bread is enough, but if you’re a rice fan then the popular Pilau Rice will suit this months Recommended Meal.

Recommended Meal – May

We hope you enjoy May’s Recommended Meal of the Month. This month’s recommendation offers a bit of everything – seafood, chicken and vegetables. Let us know what you think!

Starter – King Prawn Butterfly

Seafood starts things off with the huge King Prawn Butterfly served with salad and a mild yoghurt sauce.

Main – Kathmandu Murgh

Chicken is next with our Kathmandu Murgh – a medium-hot dish cooked with fresh garlic, ginger, whole spring onions, cinnamon and lentils.

Side – Cauliflower Bhaji

Our side dish of Cauliflower Bhaji beautifully compliments the chicken.

Bread – Garlic Nan

Garlic Nan is perfect to soak up the sauce in your main dish and one nan is normally enough to share with another especially if you’re ordering rice too.

Rice – Mushroom Rice

While our popular Pilau Rice would do just fine, we think some more vegetables in your meal helps to balance things out and we recommend our Mushroom Pilau Rice.

Recommended Meal – April

Our April Recommended Meal of the Month is truly a healthy treat. The menu’s main features are a combination of tender spring chicken with good old reliable British vegetables. But what makes all the difference is the Itihaas way of concocting and serving you a top grade feast.

Starter – Tandoori Chicken

Begin your meal with the ever popular Tandoori Chicken, an all around favourite in Indian cuisine. Our restaurant chef is a dab hand at handling a delectable quarter spring chicken. Marinated in wholesome
yoghurt with Itihaas’s own fusion of herbs and spices, the chicken pieces are skewered and roasted in our clay oven, to mouthwatering perfection.

Main – Shahi Chasni

Moving onto your Main, and still being health conscious, a splendid Shahi Chasni is next. Sublime chicken kebabs are cooked in a delicate sweet and sour sauce with a garnish of fresh herbs and spices.

Side – Alo Mater

The Side dish of Alo Mater, peas with potatoes, are cooked in a tasty thick sauce. Being uncomplicated, this trustworthy side is the perfect balance to the overall menu.

Bread – Peshwari Nan

Dig in to some spectacular Peshwari Nan bread. Full of goodness, the specially made leavened bread is filled with ground almonds and sultanas.

Rice – Pilau Rice

The very best of Saffron Basmati rice is transformed into Itihaas’ delicious Pilau Rice, and serves very nicely with the main dish of Shahi Chasni.

Recommended Meal – March

Our March Meal of the Month is something a bit special with two different and special breads as well as one of the classic Chicken curries that we reckon is hard to beat. Not only is it a great meal to eat here in our restaurant, but it will travel well too if you can’t get out and want a takeaway to enjoy in peace!

Starter – Chicken Puri

Beautiful puffed bread served with a flavoursome spiced sauce containing beautiful pieces of chicken. Not only is this is a starter that doesn’t require cutlery, there is every chance you’ll end up licking the plate too – it’s that good.

Main – Chicken Tikka Balti

Beloved of Birmingham – the Balti is a great curry cooked in a bucket (not really – but in a flat bottomed balti dish)! Our chef’s special version contains lovely garlic, onions and fresh herbs in a medium spiced sauce and whichever meat you are after. Our recommendation for March is the Chicken Tikka variety with the classic taste of marinated barbecued chicken.

Side – Bombay Aloo

The first recommendation here is the spiced potato dish Bombay Aloo – similar to the classic Sag Aloo – but without the spinach.

Bread – Keema Naan

Accompany this with the meatiness of a great Keema naan.

Rice – Pilau Rice

And with the great range of tastes in pilau rice.

Recommended Meal – February

Valentines Delights – Recommended Meal for Love!

Starter – Salmon Tikka

Succulent Scottish salmon with a rich mix of spice and cooked in the tandoor – a light start to a great meal.

Rice – Mushroom Pilau Rice

Along with this delightful pilau rice full of mushrooms bursting with flavour.

The final side is one that you have to enjoy together as beautiful buttery garlic coats the fluffy naan.

Recommended Meal – January

Here is a rather special meal to get you going for 2011. This month are dishes that hopefully you know and love already combined into the perfect banquet.

With this menu, we’re keeping it simple – that makes it hard to beat. The main course is milder to provide  a contrast with last month’s spicy hot Beef Jalfrezie.

Starter – Sabzi Pakora

Lovely balls of vegetable bound together with gram flour and deep fried. They are served with a light crispy salad and a special sauce to douse them in.

Main – Chicken Pasanda

Marinated chicken in a mild sauce rich with the luxurious taste of almonds. This is a classic curry dish – nothing too fancy other than the fantastic taste.

Side – Sag Aloo

Itihaas’ special Sag Aloo, a classic dish – and we think our version is that little bit extra special.

Rice – Pilau Rice

Accompany this with some beautiful fragrant pilau rice and a beautiful peshwari nan.

Bread – Peshwari Nan

The sweet stuffing of sultanas and ground nuts in the bread complementing the main course perfectly.

Recommended Meal – December

It’s the coldest month of the year so far – so it only seems fair that this meal has to be something that little bit extra special to warm you up. The curry here has a bit of spice – and the classic Indian sides will complement and enhance it. The perfect winter warming menu.

Starter – Assorted Kebab Selection

Fresh crisp salad and a lovely smooth minty dip accompany this beautiful selection of lamb and chicken kebabs, marinated and barbecued to provide the most sumptuous entrée to any meal.

Main Course – Beef Jalfrezie

A delightful spicy dish with a sauce made from crunchy green pepper and fiery green chillies. Perfectly cooked beef is coated in the rich sauce and then completemented with our chef’s secret mix of fresh herbs and ground spice.

Side – Bhandi

Call it Okra or Ladies fingers – it is always fresh and delightfully tasty.

Rice – Pilau Rice

Fluffy basmati rice coloured and flavoured by saffron. So perfect tasting it is ideal to eat soaked in the gravy from your curry – or alone.

Bread – Garlic Nan

Butter, garlic and fresh herbs smeared all over a lovely hot circle of bread fresh from the tandoor.

Recommended Meal – November

We love creating great Indian foods and delicacies, some you’ll know well and others will be new to you. All of them are completely authentic and just begging to be eaten. As November passes and the days and nights get colder and darker, here is a beautiful meal that you can enjoy whether sat in our restaurant or taking advantage of our takeaway/home delivery service.

Starter – Samosa

Our samosas are delightful crisp little triangles packed full of minced lamb and vegetables with some subtle spice. Served with fresh crispy salad and minty sauce they are just begging to be picked up and dipped!

Main Course – Shatkora Gosht

What isn’t there to like about melt in the mouth lamb in a sauce made from a semi wild citrus fruit all the way from Bangladesh? The shatkora is notorious for it’s sourness, yet its aromatic properties mean it is in demand across the perfume industry. Add to this fresh herbs and spices and you have a delightfully mild curry with a citrus twang.

Side Dish – Tarka Dall

The classic warmly spiced Indian dish of lentils and split peas is a perfect accompaniment.

Rice – Special Fried Rice

Special fried rice with egg and peas may sound almost Chinese – but with beautiful flagrant basmati rice this is anything but.

Bread – Tandoori Roti

To accompany (and to mop up all those flavours) a delightful wholemeal flatbread fresh from the tandoor.
